The massive building of the Uffizi Gallery stretches from Piazza della signoria to the Arno river, this U-shaped building was created by Vasari for Cosimo I of the Medici family in 1560 and completed after his death.The origins of the collection of works of art go back to Cosimo I, later the galleries were enlarged and filled with masterpieces by his son Francesco I, the Medici continued to add works of art until the end of the dynasty, Anna Maria Luisa , the last member of the family, settled her inheritance to the people of Florence in 1737.
