In Florence we can say there are so many wonderful churches, even the smallest one is a trasure chest, full of art and history.
I want to guide you inside two of the most important ones: Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella.
This Churches belong to XIIIth century and were established by Dominican and Franciscan firars, on the opposite sides of the city, many famous artist worked to embellish this buildings but also other artist were responsible of heavy modifications.
Inside Santa Maria Novella you will find that frescoes are the main features of the decoration, Masaccio, Ghirlandaio, Orcagna and Filippino Lippi are present.
Inside Santa Croce there are different monuments and several tombs of the most illustrious Florentine who walked on earth, this is why it is calle the temple of Italian Gloreies, but also there are remarkable frescoes fo Giotto, works of Donatello and Cimabue.
There has always been a kind of rivalry due to the antagosism between the Franciscan and Dominican Friars, but there was also a personal competition between Donatello and Brunelleschi…….
